The contest for Elections-2014 is taking interesting turns & twists everyday. Arvind Kejriwal, the bureaucrat turned politician is ready to take on Narendra Modi for the Varanasi seat. As usual, a final call will be made after the referendum.
Arvind has definitely shown courage by willing to fight the mighty leader of the right party. What remains to be observed is whether he will really fight the battle as the decision would be based on the referendum. This is not the first instance in which Arvind is trying to play to the gallery. He vowed to remain apolitical during the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare. But AAP was started differing from his so called guru and mentor.
Educated middle class looked up to AAP as an alternative to the existing government in Delhi but little did they know that the Ramon Magsasay awardee had cheated the government by not honoring the bond, executed by him with his office while he availed study leave for 2 years, at the time of his resignation from IRS (Indian Revenue Service). The overconfident amateur politician, with a group of like-minded radicals and huge funding from abroad, expected to sweep the Delhi elections. Post results, after trying hard not to form the government, a midway of referendum was planned to exonerate himself of being called as power-hungry.
What is difficult to understand is the ideology of Arvind to resign from power as the opposition parties were against the induction of Jan Lok Pal bill in Delhi assembly. The referendum, which has asked him to form the government, proved only to be farce. If Arvind really had any respect for the referendum, then he must have tried for consensus among the parties in the assembly. My way or Highway is definitely no sane idea in politics. In the larger interests of the society, the government should have continued to fulfill the other promises made to the public while leaving no stone unturned to make Jan Lok Pal a reality. It is clear that Arvind was trying to capitalize the public mood and project himself to the larger arena of parliament. AAP was always in a hurry to execute few promises which would bring them some credibility and they saw a nice opportunity in Jan Lok Pal bill to liberate themselves from the responsibilities assigned to them by the people.
The attitude and ideologies of himself, his ministers and his party colleagues are fraught with immaturity, inexperience, power greediness and inexplicable itch to remain in news. The theatrical drama by him which resulted in arrest of two policemen, the midnight raid of his law minister, irresponsible comments from his colleagues would stand testimony of their fetish to hold themselves in headlines.
Even the media which played a quintessential role in his victory in Delhi was found malicious by this wily politician. The person who was considered as messiah of the middle class, who are frustrated with corruption, is only trying to play some tricks to grab the attention of the nation. Arvind who was looked up to as a social reformer is turning out to be a huge disappointment and the voter is left confused whether to take his side.
It is high time to realize politics is not about creating sensations or making news.
